Japanese cuisine has arrived in Port Arthur with Koko Ramen Poke Bowl.

Owner Li Qiu Jiang and local businesswoman and friend Phuong Tat sat down this week to talk about the newly opened eatery, located at 7675 Memorial Blvd.

“This is something new to Port Arthur,” Phuong Tat said of Japanese cuisine.

As she spoke a waiter brought out a specialty dessert called mochilee cream combo. The colorful frozen dessert came in green tea, mango and strawberry flavors — each sitting delicately on the plate while across the room in another area a cook was chopping noodles for a ramen dish.

Jiang said he knows that poke bowls and ramen dishes are very popular and people are eager to try them.

Koko Ramen offers a number of different appetizers from dumplings and deep fried tofu and vegetable dishes to seafood and other foods. There is also a variety of ramen, which are served with thin noodles, dinner bento boxes, Japanese fried rice, tempura dishes, poke bowls, desserts, ice cream rolls, bubble teas and much more.

Tat noted the Japanese food is nutritious as well as good tasting.
