Volleyball roundup: Lady Titans earn first win

Last Saturday, Memorial played three close sets in two-set defeats to Liberty and tournament host Orangefield.

It wouldn’t be much long before the Lady Titans picked up their first win. They did it Friday behind Chasity Drake’s 31 assists and Alaya Riles’ 12 kills in a five-set victory at Houston Chavez.

Kayla Sanders added nine kills in the 19-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-15, 15-12 victory, handing coach Sommer Lough her first win with the Lady Titans (1-16). Ragan Dennis made six kills and three blocks, Sarobbie Angelle four kills and four digs and Drake two kills.

Memorial will have a week off before hosting Bob Hope next Friday.

 

Nederland 3, Bridge City 1

In Bridge City, Nederland (9-9) recovered from a 25-23 first-set loss to win the next three, 25-17, 25-21, 25-15.

Hannah Hickey and Karley McGill each had 11 kills and four blocks to lead the Bulldogs. Katie Perez totaled six kills and four aces, Kamren Savarino and Jenna Jarrett totaled 12 assists apiece, and Jenna Brekel and Kaylee Adams each made 12 digs in the win.

Nederland will visit Sweeny on Tuesday.

 

Sabine Pass 3, Lighthouse 0

In Sabine Pass, Yainn Zuniga’s 19 assists and Joanna Smolsky’s seven kills and four aces helped the Sharks (6-3) defeat Lighthouse Homeschool Association.

Brooklyn Dixon, Nevaeh Jones and Charnel Jones combined for12 kills. Kennedy Lejune and Jamesia Jones totaled seven and five digs, respectively.

Sabine Pass will visit Lighthouse on Tuesday.

Port Neches-Groves’ match at Livingston was canceled Friday. PNG will host Huffman on Tuesday.
