Nederland ISD turns 100, and the school district is celebrating with students, teachers and the community by throwing a large birthday party.

The Back-to-School Bash event is from 3-7 p.m. Saturday behind Bulldog Stadium. Renee Latiolais, coordinator for the event, said she is looking forward to celebrating with the community.

“Throughout the day there is going to be bouncy houses, obstacle courses and plenty of different crafts like face painting,” she said. “We will have hamburgers, pizza, tacos, soda and water that will all be available for $1.”

The event is free and family friendly with performances by DJ London, Ned and Company and the Curse and the Cure.

“From 3-5 p.m., we will have DJ London on the stage — a family friendly DJ,” Latiolais said. “At 5 p.m., Ned and Company, a performance choir from the high school, will perform. At 6 p.m., we will be honoring our elected officials like Congressman Randy Weber and Representative Dade Phelan.”

Following the honoring of local officials, the band and cheerleaders will perform.

“It’s an event to shout a big and festive happy birthday to Nederland ISD,” Latiolais said. “We will also have a memorabilia showcase inside the gym, along with centennial T-shirts for sale and giveaways from our sponsors. It’s a festival celebratory event for the centennial.”

Latiolais said she wants to encourage everyone to come out and celebrate the Nederland School District.

“It’s a family friendly event, so we want to encourage everyone to feel free to bring lawn chairs and blankets and just enjoy the day.”

Vicky Harry, secondary teacher of the year at Nederland ISD, said she is excited to be celebrating a school district that has been important in her life.

“As a lifetime resident of Nederland and graduate of Nederland High School, I am so excited to celebrate our centennial,” she said. “We have 100 years of awesome traditions and wonderful accomplishments with many more amazing things to come. I’m beyond proud to be part of the Bulldog Family.”
