Bob West’s Chip Shots: Braden Bailey tied for fifth in second All-Pro Tour start

PNG ex Braden Bailey was well positioned after Tuesday’s opening round of the All Pro Tour Southside Bank Open at Crown Colony in Lufkin. Bailey, coming off a tie for third in his first APT start, shot a bogey free, two-under-par 70 and was tied for fifth.

Former Lamar golfer MJ Daffue was the first day leader with a 67. Daffue, from South Africa, played his final six holes in five under to take a one-stroke lead over Fort Worth’s Sam Stevens. Also ahead of Bailey were two players at 69. …

In the Monday Senior 50 Plus 2-ball at Babe Zaharias, the team of Earl Richard, Ted Freeman, Larry Reece, Paul Duplatis and Jerry Watson won the front with minus-3. On the back, the foursome of Cap Hollier, Dan Flood, James Trahan and Bob West placed first, also with minus 3. …

The Super Saturday 2-ball at Zaharias saw the team of Adam Davis, Hollier, Wes McDonald and Jay Hampson take the front in minus 5. There was a two-way tie at minus one on the back between the team of Freeman, Bim Morrow, Harry Green and Ronnie Hicks and the foursome of Joe Gongora, Rufus Reyes, Paul Flores and Flood. …

Closest to the pin winners were James Shipley (No. 2), Rusty Hicks (No. 7), Thad Borne (No. 12) and Hollier (No. 15). …
