Filing for a spot on Groves or Port Neches city councils or Port Neches-Groves Independent School District board of trustees ends at 5 p.m. today (Aug. 19).

Currently there are two seats each up for election on Port Neches and Groves city councils and PNGISD’s board of trustees.

Groves city

Ward 3 incumbent Sidney Badon Jr. has filed to keep his seat and has drawn one opponent, newcomer Barbara Edington.

Two people are contending for the Ward 1 seat — Chris Borne, who was appointed to the spot to replace former Councilman Cross Coburn, who was ousted in a recall election, and newcomer Cindy Kreutzer.

Terms for council seats are for two years and there is a $25 filing fee. Interested applicants must reside in the city at least six months preceding the election and live in the ward they represent.

Groves City Hall is located at 3947 Lincoln Ave., Groves. For more information, call the city secretary at 960-5773.

Port Neches

In Port Neches, the seats held by Place 1 councilmember Chris McMahon and Place 2 councilmember Adam Anders are open and both have filed for reelection.

Applicants must live in the city at least one year prior to the preceding election and there is a $100 filing fee. In lieu of the fee the city will accept a petition signed by a minimum of 25 qualified voters in the city.

Seats are at-large.

PNGISD

In PNGISD, the Place 4 seat currently held by Lana Parker and Place 5 seat held by Brandon Cropper are up for election and both have filed for the respective seats.

Candidates can file for the Place 4 or Place 5 seat at the PNGISD Administration Building, 620 Ave. C, Port Neches.

The administration office will be open until 5 p.m. Aug. 19.
