NEDERLAND — Nederland Independent School District employees are set to see a substantial raise in the new school year.

Trustees this week approved a salary schedule that includes about a 10% raise for teachers — ranging from $4,200 to $8,700.

The increase comes in part from the school finance overhaul approved by the state earlier this year.

All other district employees will see an approximate 8% raise in pay from the midpoint of the individual pay grade, according to Mike Laird, assistant super for personnel and auxiliary services.

In addition, the board approved an increase in the district’s contributions towards employee health care premiums.

“As a district, the board and administration, we were committed to offering our employees the most competitive compensation package possible,” Superintendent Robin Perez said in a news release. “For 100 years, Nederland ISD has had dedicated and committed employees that work hard for the students of our community, and we are thrilled to be in a position to offer these pay increases to our personnel.”

NISD is currently working on its 2019-2020 budget with proposed general fund revenues of $48.7 million and proposed expenditures of the same amount.

Port Neches-Groves Independent School District is also looking at giving its employees a significant raise this school year.

In July, trustees approved a 7.5% raise for its employees, a $1.25 per hour raise for non-contract employees and benefits increase.
