Mary Alice Owens McEntire

Mary Alice Owens McEntire, 92, of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at her home under the loving care of her son, David McEntire.

She was born March 17, 1927 in Roxton, Texas to John Monroe Owens and Willie Mae Farmer Owens.

Alice was raised on a farm in Northeast Texas and graduated as Valedictorian of her Roxton High School graduating class in 1944.

She went on to earn her college degree from Paris Junior College and in 1947 following World War II she married Gerald McEntire.

After spending time in College Station, Texas supporting her husband’s studies at Texas A&M University and his attainment of a Master’s Degree in Sociology they moved to Port Arthur.

The family moved to Groves in 1965 and Alice completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees at Lamar University and was a teacher for Nederland ISD until her retirement.

Alice was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Groves.

She was a Master Gardner and loved traveling the world.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Beaumont with Reverend Marty Boddie of First United Methodist Church officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald McEntire, parents, four brothers, Jack Owens, Kenneth Owens, Walter Owens, and Alfred Owens, and sister, Sybil Owens Merritt Pugh.

Alice is survived by three daughters, Elaine O’Neal and husband Kirk of Houston, TX., Nancy McEntire and husband Danny Felsinger of Aledo, TX., and Donna Brooks and husband Scott of Denver, CO., son, David McEntire of Maui, HI., brothers, Charles Owens of Roxboro, N.C., and Joe Owens of Santa Monica, CA., five grandsons, John McEntire and wife Anna, Elliott McEntire and wife Lauren, Zack McEntire and wife Diana, Isaac Lupovitch and wife Shelby and Thane McEntire, three great grandchildren, Caden McEntire. Cooper McEntire and August McEntire.
