Round-up: Sharks start volleyball season off with win, drop next 2 in Galveston

Published 9:41 pm Thursday, August 8, 2019

Any momentum Sabine Pass might have built from winning its season opener did not carry far in the next two matches.

In the Galveston O’Connell tournament Thursday, the Sharks defeated Houston Grace Christian 25-12, 25-23 behind Nevaeh Jones’ four kills and six blocks. Joanna Smolsky totaled six kills, Charnel Jones had five kills and two blocks, and Yainn Zuniga spiked three kills in the win.

The next two matches weren’t as kind to the Sharks (1-2). Houston Cristo Rey beat Sabine Pass 25-11, 25-22; and Houston Family Christian took a 25-18, 26-24 win. That sends Sabine Pass to the silver bracket, to be played Saturday.
