EDITORIAL — “Best Of” material: Booming business

Saturday’s grand opening sale and celebration of Tees2urdoor on Boston Avenue in Nederland delivered some retail excitement as local and regional shoppers took advantage of greater options created with the newest community storefront.

In response to The Port Arthur News’ preview story announcing Tees2urdoor’s opening, Nederland Councilman Emmett Hollier said, “Check them out, and while you are there, go ahead and check out all of the Boston Ave. shops!”

Hollier’s astute response underscored a fact about the retail and service industry: foot traffic at one business benefits all surrounding businesses.

That was the case for one Port Arthur News employee, who used Tees2urdoor’s opening as the perfect time to follow Hollier’s advice.

During a visit to The Kids Kloset, also on Boston Avenue, proprietor Kittie Kay remarked how she wanted to visit the street’s newest addition but had not yet had a chance to do so because of her shop’s busyness.

Return customers did not seem to be a concern that Saturday for Kay, who spoke from behind her cash register, which prominently displayed three recent first place ribbons earned through voting in The Port Arthur News’ “Best Of” balloting.

The annual consumer scorecard is a badge of honor for area businesses, which get to strut their stuff upon winning.

The concept is fairly simple: The Port Arthur News publishes ballots in dozens of categories under designations for Food & Beverage, People, Business, Services and Area.

Readers cast votes for their favorites, and we publish the results.

Businesses and entities that make the list enjoy a special honor, because the recognition is chosen by Port Arthur News readers, who are residents attuned with the comings and goings of their communities.

The Best Of 2019 winners are publishing Saturday. It’s a must-see list that celebrates our hard working neighbors while providing quite a guide for consumers entering the marketplace.

When one local business succeeds, it provides opportunities for so many more.

We look forward to celebrating the newest honors this weekend with a deserving group of business professionals.

We ask all of Jefferson County to join us Saturday in saying, “Job well done.”
