Seven local women will be honored at the Leading Ladies Honoree Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Bob Bowers Civic Center in Port Arthur. The event is part of the three-day 2019 Diamond Conference, hosted by the Christian Faith Missionary Baptist Church of Port Arthur.
The Diamond Conference Team selected for inclusion as honorees seven women, all of whom are from Port Arthur or Jefferson County. They include:
- Terry Savoie-Hadley
- Alesha Wells
- Johnna Brisco-Nico
- Uniqua Domingo
- Yolanda Hopkins
- Christina Green
- Tammy Kotzur
“Basically, these women are serving, volunteering for non-profits, libraries, churches and hospitals,” said Charlotte Moses, of the non-profit Christian Faith Women of Virtue Inc., which is organizing the conference.
“These are women who don’t ever get recognized. They are doing things that people aren’t highlighting, doing important things the community might never learn about. They are volunteering at nursing homes, hospitals, work that someone would have to do — but you don’t know they are doing it.”
The Women of Virtue, which includes more than 50 women, have hosted an annual “women’s empowerment” conference for 12 years, said Moses, who also serves as executive pastor of the Christian Faith Missionary Baptist Church. As part of that annual empowerment effort, the Diamond Conference panel selects honorees.
The Diamond Conference hosted a meet-and-greet for the honorees in June.
