Detectives with the Port Arthur Police Department are tight lipped with information about Friday’s shooting death during what appears to be a robbery gone wrong.

“We are still trying to find the next of kin,” Det. Mike Hebert said. “We have notified some relatives but have not been able to find everybody (we need).”

The name, age and hometown of the man have not been released as of Monday afternoon. An autopsy had not been performed by Monday afternoon either.

“Detectives have not stopped following leads, promising leads, in the case,” Hebert said.

PAPD responded to a call of a possible drive-by shooting around 1:15 a.m. Friday at a home in the 3200 block of 18^th Street but later learned the crime was an aggravated robbery and homicide.

According to police, two men described only as black males approached a lone third man, described only as a Hispanic male, and demanded money. A fourth man, also described as a Hispanic male, came out of the home and was also confronted.

During the altercation the fourth man was struck with a pistol and the third man was shot while trying to flee.

The shooting victim was brought by ambulance to a local hospital and died from his injuries.

The second victim did not receive life-threatening injuries.

Police scoured the property and were still on scene at 9:30 a.m. that morning, moving from the home to a detached garage.
