Loya, 20, was one of three suspects reportedly involved in the murder.

According to the arrest warrant, a witness saw a black male, a white male and Loya in an altercation with Miller. Loya grabbed a gun from the white male in the parking lot and went back up to Miller’s apartment. A gunshot was heard, then Loya came back down the stairs with the gun and left in a truck.

The next day Loya went to the Nederland Police Station to speak with officers and was wearing the same clothing the witness described the night before. He then asked for a lawyer to be present and did not make any other statements.

Loya was arrested and bond was set at $250,000, according to an archive story.

The city’s last homicide was the May 2018 killing of Michael Legg on Beauxart Gardens Road.
