Friday crash injures 4, including PAPD officer

Four people were injured, including a Port Arthur police officer, after a two-vehicle crash around 1 a.m. Friday.

The PAPD officer’s patrol unit was reportedly stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Texas 87 and Austin Street when the vehicle was rear-ended by a 1997 Pontiac passenger vehicle, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephanie Davis with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The officer, identified as Daniel Summers, 35, of Port Arthur, was brought to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Pontiac, 31-year-old Devon Andre Martin of Houston and his two passengers, ages 10 and 11, were brought to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with serious injuries.

The investigation was continuing as Troopers investigate all factors that may have contributed to the crash, including alcohol and speed.
