Motiva confirms Friday release of petroleum coke dust
Motiva has confirmed that its Port Arthur Refinery experienced an event Friday that resulted in a release of petroleum coke dust.
“An initial assessment did not provide a clear indication that the release had an impact outside of the refinery,” according to a news release from Motiva.
“However, as a cautionary measure, Motiva has set up a claims line at 1-800-451-7746 for Port Arthur residents who believe they may have been affected by the release.”
The Port Arthur City Health Department had not received complaints regarding the incident as of Tuesday night, Judith Smith, director of heath services for the city of Port Arthur Health Department, said.
Those types of calls usually go to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
