This may sound funny, especially if you exercise regularly, are a construction worker who always ends up with strong, firm muscles or professional guitarists or athletes with calluses on your fingers.

Stay with me; you’ll see where I’m going with this.

It seems to be a stressful and emotional time for people, with sadness from losing a loved one, anger for lack of provision or money for recreation and fear of hurricanes (where I live in Texas on the Gulf of Mexico) and on and on …

If we let hardness or fear begin its work within us, it is so unhealthy, distracting and damaging. Don’t let fear in!

What we think about, and how we think about ourselves, when challenged, is so important and critical.

Romans 12:2 Amplified Bible says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (by its new ideals and attitude).” If you read even a verse every day it will affect your thinking.

You’ve heard the saying, “It’s all mental” — well, it certainly starts there. We need to be brainwashed, wash that dirty, cluttery brain, hah! Fill it with the Word of God and be washed, blessed and refreshed, Amen.

There are a few things that are not good if they get hard, like a feather, a marshmallow, pillows, cotton candy and some are not able to fluff up or dry soft again. You can probably think of more … Our hearts!

God helped Job by making his heart soft, so he would listen.

He sent rain to soften the earth with showers to enrich and prepare soil for growing and when Esau and Jacob were traveling, Jacob announced that he would lead softly for the livestock and pace of the children.

Once again, and finally, the main thing about us that really needs to always remain soft is our heart. To be teachable, patient, compassionate and understanding, starting at home.

My personal favorite scripture for soft, is, “A soft answer turns away wrath (anger), but grievous words stir up anger.” Proverbs 15:1

Soft is always better!
