Recent major-league draftee Jason Blanchard was named to the Southland Conference All-Academic baseball second team.

The recent Lamar graduate earned the award one week after the San Diego Padres drafted him in the ninth round. Each Southland school’s head coach, sports information director and academic staff member vote on the athletes, each of whom must possess a grade-point average of 3.00 or better, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competition (excluding pitchers).

Blanchard posted a 3.12 ERA and tied for third in the Southland with 87 strikeouts.
