PAPD officer arrested for DWI in Orange County

An investigation was underway Monday regarding Port Arthur Police Officer Joshua Abshier, who was arrested Saturday on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Orange County.

A Texas Department Public Safety trooper working routine patrol around 2 a.m. Saturday in the area of FM 105 in Orange County said he observed a Ford pickup truck traveling south on FM 105 that failed to drive in a single lane, according to information from DPS.

The trooper activated the emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop and the driver of the Ford continued southbound and eventually pulled into a convenience store parking lot near the intersection of FM 105 and Texas 87.

The driver reportedly showed several signs of intoxication. Joshua Abshire, 45, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and taken to the Orange County jail.

The DWI investigation remained ongoing Monday and a completed case report will be submitted to the Orange County District Attorne’s Office in the next couple of weeks.

Port Arthur Police Department provided a statement saying that an internal affairs investigation was under way, which is standard procedure for personnel actions of this nature.
