Nobody could accuse Chris Stroud of letting adversity get him down in the opening round of the Charles Schwab Challenge Thursday at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth.

Reeling after a triple bogey 7 on his first hole of the event — No. 10 — the Port Neches-Groves ex showed plenty of grit by battling back to shoot a two-over-par 72. Stroud played his next 15 holes after the triple bogey in two under before making his lone bogey of the day. He is tied for 65th.

Andrew Landry, meanwhile, did not fare nearly as well as Stroud. Landry, after a round that saw him make nine bogeys, signed for a 77 and is tied for 118 in a field of 121 players.

The other player in the tourney with Southeast Texas ties, Lamar ex Shawn Stefani, shot a one-over-par 71 and is tied for 52nd.

Tony Finau owns the lead after a six-under-par 64. Jordan Spieth is a shot back at 65.
