Carmen Fernandez, 88, of Port Arthur passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 14, 1931 to her parents, Jesse Barbosa and Virginia Flores Barbosa in Port Arthur, Texas. Carmen was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1950. She was a devoted homemaker in raising her four children along with her husband, Salvador. Carmen was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Port Arthur and was a member of OLG Senior Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Salvador Fernandez.

Carmen is survived by her two daughters, Belinda Gongora and husband, Joe of Port Arthur, Debbie Theriot and husband, Keith of Port Arthur, her two sons, Ricky Fernandez and wife, Shirleen of Nederland, George Fernandez and wife, Denise of Nederland along with 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Jessica Garcia of Nederland, Beatrice Mullins of Jasper, Lulie Kiamar of Vidor, Libby Ferguson of McKinney, Texas, her three brothers, Jesse Barbosa, Jr. of Georgia, Richard Barbosa of Nederland, Carlos Barbosa of Port Neches as well as numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Friday, May 24, 2019 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic in Port Arthur. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
