SOFTBALL: Wilbur named Southland freshman of year

Freshman right-hander Kassidy Wilbur of Bridge City was named Southland Conference softball freshman of the year.

Wilbur is only the second Stephen F. Austin freshman to win the award, following Monika Covington in 2008. Wilbur became the first Southland player to make the watch list for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Freshman of the Year in four years.

Wilbur ranks 10th nationally with 240 strikeouts, 39th in wins with 19, 40th in strikeouts per seven innings with 8.2, 55th in earned run average at 1.81 and 66th in hits allowed per seven innings with 5.19.
