The female driver, Adriana Diane Caballero, 24, was already dead; her children, in the back seat, were crying. The initial investigation indicated that the vehicle, a silver 2015 Dodge Dart with a Nevada license plate, was traveling at a high rate of speed east bound on the service road.  She crossed the intersection of Seventh and I-10, struck the curb on the north side of the road, and lost control.

Police said the vehicle began flipping on the north side of the roadway and struck one of the support columns for the overpass. The vehicle continued flipping until it came to rest in front of Coastal Welding Supply.

The vehicle’s engine and other vehicle parts were separated from the vehicle and located under the overpass. It is unknown at this time why she was operating her vehicle at such a high rate of speed.

The family is from Las Vegas, Nevada. The Las Vegas police department was notified and family members in Southeast Texas were located.

The children, 2 and 4, were taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for treatment. The 2-year-old has a compound fracture of his right wrist and the 4-year-old has an orbital fracture and concussion, police said.

Both were listed in stable condition and were transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston.
