TRACK: Crowe second in Southland 10,000

NATCHITOCHES, La. — Taking home one medal in the first day and capturing points in another event, Lamar’s track & field team is through the first day of the Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Jamie Crowe took second in the men’s 10,000-meters with a race of 31:46.65. He trailed Central Arkansas’s Markus Schweikert by just two seconds in the race. Liam Burthem also contributed points with four for his fifth-place finish. He ran a 32:00.77. Kyle Garcia raced a 32:18.98 for ninth and James Stockings took 19th with a 33:50.51.

Julie Emmerson was the best finish in the women’s 10,000-meters with a fourth-place, 38:17.85. She scored five of Lamar’s six points on the women’s side on Friday. Katy Whiteoak had a 10th-place, 39:05.43.

Migle Muraskaite got a point for LU in the women’s javelin throw. She threw 41.27 meters for eighth place. Parl Eelma tossed 38.58 meter for 12th and Kristina Zacmane took 18th with a 32.91 meter throw.

Thai Williams (21st, 5.31 meters) and Zacmane (24th, 5.21 meters) competed in the women’s long jump for Lamar, and Muraskaite is about halfway through the women’s heptathlon. The sophomore from Vilnius, Lithuania, got second in the shot put with a 11.92 meter toss, second in the high jump by clearing 1.61 meters, ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.04, and 10th in the 200-meter dash with a 26.41. That leaves the 800-meters, the javelin throw, and the long jump on Saturday.
