Initial reports indicate that a 2016 Honda SUV was traveling westbound on SH 73 followed by a Dodge Charger. Troopers said the driver of the Dodge was traveling at an unsafe speed and rear-ended the Honda, causing the Honda to travel off the roadway to the right. There, the vehicle struck a fence and rolled several times.

The driver of the Dodge, 36-year-old Ashley Rochelle of Port Neches, and her 5-year-old child were transported by ambulance to the Southeast Texas Medical Center. Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening, Troopers said

The 5-year-old child was secured by a seatbelt, but was not properly restrained in a child restraint system as required by law.

The driver of the Honda, Sandra Harlan of Ohio, 64, and her husband, Robert Harlan, were both transported by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries.

All occupants were wearing seatbelts, Troopers said; however, the force of the crash caused Robert Harlan to be ejected from the vehicle.
