Former Central and University of Texas star P.J. Locke has signed a free-agent deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Locke announced his signing on Twitter on Monday afternoon. He is the third player from the Golden Triangle to land on an NFL roster this year, following free-agent signee and former Ozen and Lamar standout Rodney Randle Jr. (Los Angeles Chargers) and fifth-round draftee West Orange-Stark and Alabama product Deionte Thompson (Arizona Cardinals).

All three are defensive backs.

“I just personally want to thank you guys for all your blessings,” Locke said in a Twitter video. “God is good. It’s been the longest three days of my life. Finally came to terms with the Steelers. I just want to thank the Steelers for welcoming me into this organization and believing in me. Let’s go do this! Man, I’m so excited. Let’s go do it.”

Locke (5-feet-11, 210 pounds) started 13 games for the Longhorns, who defeated Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in January. Locke picked off a pass and returned it 22 yards and made three tackles in that game.

He was ranked as the ninth-best cornerback nationally by Scout and 25th-best safety by 247Sports when he signed with Texas in 2015.
