Alternate shot proved to be a costly format for Andrew Landry and his teammate Austin Cook on Sunday in the final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. It was even costlier for Justin Harding and Branden Grace.

PNG ex Landry and his former Arkansas teammate Cook struggled to a 3-over-par 75 that dropped them 16 places down the leaderboard into a tie for 22nd with a 72-hole total of 272. In the two days of alternate shot they used 145 of those strokes, posting 70-75.

Lamar ex Harding and Grace fared even worse. After starting the day tied for third, they staggered to an eight-over-par 80 and tumbled all the way to a tie for 32nd at 274. In Friday’s first round of alternate shot they be able to combine for a 68.

While many teams were hamstrung by the format, Jon Rahm and Ryan Palmer made it look easy with a 69 to win by three strokes with a 262. They birdied the first hole Sunday and were never threatened. In the first round of alternate shot they had combined for a 65.

PNG ex Chris Stroud and his teammate, Jason Kokrak, fared best Sunday on teams featuring a player with a Southeast Texas tie. They managed a 70 to finish at 272 and move up 10 spots into a tie for 22nd. Stroud and Kokrak authored a 69 on the first day of alternate shot.

The other former Lamar player in the field, Shawn Stefani, and his teammate Bill Hass tied for 30th after closing with a 71 for 273.
