Those interested in finding something to do locally this weekend will have plenty of options.
Soul Samurai is playing at the Port Arthur Little Theater on Friday and Saturday. According to the theater’s Facebook page, the movie is about a young samurai girl named Dewdrop, along with her faithful sidekick Cert, who must now, after avenging the death of her husband, battle through vampire-infested Brooklyn to make it back home.
Due to adult language and artistic violence, admission is limited to those 17 and older, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian for the length of the show. Admission is included for season members. Show times are 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on both days. Tickets: $11 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and active teachers and $6 for general students.
Those looking to do a bit of exercising and donate some money can try the Relay for Life event in Nederland on Saturday. The event is from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and begins in front of the windmill on Boston Avenue.
On Thursday, the relay had 373 participants signed up and raised $112,626.84.
In the mood for barbecued pork chops, ribs and pulled pork? Stop by the Neches River Wheelhouse for the Riverfest’s Smoke on the Water BBQ Cook Off on Saturday. The Fan Favorite category allows the public to purchase a $5 wristband and get taster samples of different pork dishes. The winner of the Fan Favorite will get a $500 prize.
The general category will have judges and be split into categories such as ribs, brisket, chicken and beans. The Fan Favorite event will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Weather forecasts predict clear skies throughout the weekend with highs in the mid-to-low 80s and lows in the mid 60s.
