PREP ROUNDUP: Nederland run-rules Cleveland

Conner Kemp held Cleveland to one hit, and Nederland scored in all five innings of a 12-0 run-rule victory at Cleveland on Friday to remain unbeaten in District 21-5A baseball.

Kemp struck out 10 Indians on just 55 pitches for the win. Landon Hiltz, Adam Roccaforte, Brock Holton and Wade Butler each hammered two hits, with all Roccaforte hitting doubles.

Brian Davila (triple), Omar Mascorro (two RBI), Corbin Chandler (two RBI) and Samuel Wille each had a hit for Nederland (14-7-2, 8-0 in 21-5A). Hiltz, Holton, Butler, Romero, Wille and Davila each drove in a run.

The Bulldogs will host Memorial on Tuesday.

 

PNG 7, Memorial 0

In Port Neches, the Indians (13-11-1, 6-2 in 21-5A) defeated the Titans (5-10, 2-6) by the same score as Tuesday’s meeting in Port Arthur.

Carson Roccaforte hit a fourth-inning solo home run and finished the game 3 for 4 with two runs for the Indians. Ryan Sosa batted 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Dean Guidry, Khristian Curtis, Blake Bost and Cade Billeaud each had a hit.

Roccaforte struck out six Titans in four innings on the mound. Grant Rogers tossed three strikeouts and allowed a hit in two frames, while Jamison Simmons fanned one in the seventh.

Miguel Samudio went 2 for 3, and Josue Rodriguez and Tony Brooks accounted for the other two Memorial hits.

PNG will host Barbers Hill on Tuesday.

 

Sabine Pass 10, West Hardin 7

Following a 21-18 defeat to the Oilers in Saratoga, the Sharks (6-8, 3-7 in 24-2A) ended a seven-game losing streak behind Austin Smith’s 2-for-2 batting with two runs.

Larry Coleman (triple) drove in three runs in a 2-for-4 game. Carlos Chavez, Logan Odom (double), Kaine Flores and Andrew Walther each had a hit.

Jordan Boatman struck out nine and allowed two earned runs on six hits in five innings. After West Hardin pulled within 7-6 on three runs off Smith in one-third of an inning, Odom came on and held the Oilers to a run on two hits in the final 1 2/3 innings.

Sabine Pass will host Deweyville on Tuesday.

 

SOFTBALL

Barbers Hill 11, PNG 1

In Mont Belvieu, the Indians (17-9, 6-5 in 21-5A) struck in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles’ offense eventually exploded en route to a six-inning win.

Cameron Niedenthal batted 2 for 3 to lead PNG. Maylin Louvier drove in the Indians’ only run, and Sadie Shrestha and Madeleine Cormier had the other Indians’ hits.

Barbers Hill scored a four runs in the second, one in the fifth and six in the sixth to run-rule PNG.

PNG will conclude the regular season with a senior night came against Vidor on Tuesday.

Also Friday: Nederland beat Dayton 7-4 and will play at St. Agnes in Houston on Monday.

In track and field: the 5A area meet will be held Wednesday at Barbers Hill.
