Store faces TCEQ penalty, restrictions

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has imposed a penalty of $3,855 against S&A Grocery, 2498 Calder St., Beaumont and forbidden the store from receiving shipments of gasoline.

TCEQ said in documents revealed this week that during one of its inspections the store failed to routinely inspect protective systems for its tank and failed to operate the cathodic protection system on its tank to ensure system components were operating properly.

TCEQ also said the store failed to operate the UST system to prevent releases of regulated substances due to “structural failure or corrosion” and also failed to respond to the agency’s orders in “timely” fashion.

In addition to paying its penalty, TCEQ said, the store must must reapply for permits to receive gasoline to sell.
