A national pharmacy chain has purchased two Port Arthur pharmacies and changes are happening.

Greg Hamby, owner of King’s Pharmacy in Beaumont, said CVS Pharmacy purchased the locations at 1948 Ninth Ave. and 8484 Central Mall Drive, both in Port Arthur.

The Ninth Avenue location was closed while the Central Mall Drive location will remain open with the same staff.

Amy Lanctot, senior manager of public relations with CVS, said CVS and King’s Pharmacy are working together to ensure the transaction is seamless for patients and that their access to pharmacy care is not interrupted. CVS has also retained more than 30 King’s Pharmacy employees who expressed interest in joining the CVS team.

On March 14, CVS Pharmacy purchased all prescription records, insurance information and pharmacy inventory from the Ninth Avenue location and those files were transferred to the CVS at 4101 Twin City Hwy.

The changeover was official Monday as the Central Mal Drive location began operations as CVS.

“We’re looking forward to introducing industry-leading products and services to King’s Pharmacy patients and are committed to ensuring that their pharmacy needs continue to be met and exceeded, Lanctot said.

CVS will offer delivery services.

The King’s Pharmacy locations in Beaumont and Lumberton were not sold.

King’s Pharmacy opened in Port Arthur in the late 1940s.
