Both Chris Stroud and Andrew Landry were probably relieved the anticipated Pea Patch pairing didn’t materialize in the third round of the Valspar Championship.

Neither of the Port Neches-Groves exes played the kind of golf they would want the other to see Saturday as the tumbled toward the bottom of the leaderboard. Stroud shot 74 for a 54-hole total of 217 that left him tied for 64th. Landry signed
for a 76 for 219 that left him 68th.

Paul Casey grabbed sole possession of the lead by shooting a 68 for 204 after three trips around the Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort. That left him a shot ahead of world No.1 Dustin Johnson who gained ground with a 67.

Lamar ex Shawn Stefani, who started the day tied for 10th, could manage only a 73 and fell into a tie for 27th at 212.

Stroud’s scorecard showed six bogeys against three birdies. He set a bad tone with a bogey on the par 5 opening hole and was never under par. He was able to hit only 7 of 13 fairways and 11 of 18 greens in regulation.

Landry started with a birdie, then saw his round quickly go south with bogeys at No. 4, No. 6 and No. 7. Things got much worse before they got better with back to back double bogeys from the middle of the fairway on No. 9 and No. 10.

In the Web.com Tour Chitimacha Louisiana Open, West Orange-Stark ex Michael Arnaud shot an ever-par 71 and is tied for 67th at the 54-mark with 211.
