GROVES — Proposed insurance premiums for Port Neches-Groves Independent School District will increase by 3.8 percent, a number considerably lower than the previous year.

But before the district signs on to the approximately $232.5 million in coverage for property plus buildings trustees need a little more information.

PNGISD board members met Monday but a presentation by Cynthia White of Frost Insurance, San Antonio, left some trustees with questions. Business manager Sheri Drawhorn said this is the same coverage they have had for the past seven years through Frost and nothing has changed. Drawhorn said she believes the proposed policy is an excellent renewal.

The 3.8 percent increase amounts to about $42,317.

The total premium’s cost to the district is $1.14 million. There is a maximum cap on what the district would receive should the district sustain damage from a hurricane — 1 percent deductible per building with a $75 million total cap.

Loss from something other than a named storm comes with a $25,000 deductible.

Trustees opted to table the issue until a few more questions are answered. The deadline for insurance renewal is April 1.
