Beaumont police charged a suspect, 26, with traffic violations and credit card abuse after a surveillance operation Saturday morning at Folsom Hike and Bike Trail at 6450 Folsom.

In a news release, police said there were previous auto burglaries involving stolen credit cards at the address, which prompted them to set up surveillance Saturday.

At about 11:45 a.m. a described suspect from the previous auto burglary arrived back at the Hike & Bike Trail and began canvassing the parking lot, looking in car windows. The suspect vehicle also matched the description provided from previous weeks’ auto burglaries and video surveillance footage. The suspect then got back into his vehicle and left, traveling west on Folsom.

A traffic stop was conducted and the investigation continued. The driver, Jarvis Hurst of Missouri City, was ultimately arrested on traffic charges and found to be in possession of several items of evidence linking him to previous auto burglaries, including items purchased using stolen credit cards. Hurst was arrested and transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he was charged with two traffic violations and three counts of credit card abuse. More charges were pending, police said.

Beaumont Police reminded people to remove valuables from their vehicles, especially firearms, to take your keys and lock their vehicle doors.
