BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Chaney steals 3 bases in Titans’ rout

Branden Chaney stole three bases to complement a 2-for-3 batting game, and Memorial earned a District 21-5A sweep Friday with a 17-7 win at Cleveland.
Chaney was one of three Memorial players to bat 2 for 3. Jeremiah Fielder drove in two runs and had two doubles, and Adler Kithler batted in a run.
Van Ellas drove in three runs with a double and a sacrifice fly. Jaylen LaPoint (double), Josue Rodriguez, Caleb Chaisson (RBI each) and Hubert Felix lined up the other Titan hits.
Rodriguez threw 3 2/3 innings of five-hit ball and gave up four earned runs while striking out two. Fielder recorded two Ks in 1 1/3 innings.
Memorial (5-4, 2-0 in 21-5A) goes into a bye week before hosting Barbers Hill on March 26.
Bridge City 7, Hardin-Jefferson 6
In Bridge City, the Cardinals (11-4-2, 2-0 in 22-4A) survived four errors and held off a seventh-inning rally by the Hawks to earn a District 22-4A win.
Logan Hamm struck out three Hawks and allowed an earned run on two hits in a three-inning start. Peyton Havard got the win despite giving up five runs (two earned) on six hits and striking out three in the last four innings.
Cameron Yadon and Tanner Wilson each had two hits for the Cardinals. Slade Foreman, Sam Carpenter, Jackson Tims, Hamm and Havard each slapped a hit in the win.
Bridge City will visit Little Cypress-Mauriceville on Tuesday.
Hamshire-Fannett 12, Kelly 9
In Beaumont, Carlson Freeman did the most damage for the Longhorns (7-9) in a win over the Bulldogs.
Freeman batted in six runs and hit 4 for 4. Taylor Roggenkamp, Jacob Garza and Evan Viator pounded two hits apiece, and Trent Buchholz, Gage Stark and Mason Stark accounted for the rest of H-F’s 13 hits.
The defense wasn’t as sterling, however. H-F committed six errors.
Garza helped contain the Kelly bats. He fanned two and allowed five runs (one earned) on three hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Carson Wright and Gage Stark combined to toss three strikeouts and allow three earned runs on three hits the rest of the way.
