PREP ROUNDUP: Bulldogs win in clutch again; Trahan Ks 12

The News staff reports

Having pushed the game-winning run across in the seventh inning Monday, Nederland apparently didn’t mind repeating the process in the clutch Tuesday in another District 21-5A softball game.

Lexi Eversole sent Chesney Wright home on a sacrifice grounder in the sixth inning to break a 2-all tie, and the Bulldogs won their second close call in as many days, beating Cleveland 3-2 on Tuesday.

Destini Trahan struck out 12 against Cleveland, a day after throwing 14 Ks in a 1-0 win at Port Neches-Groves. She retired the Cleveland bottom of the sixth in order, tossing strikeouts against the last two batters.

Cleveland began the bottom of the seventh with a single, but Trahan struck out the next batter and induced 6-4 and 4-3 grounders to win.

Trahan scattered eight hits and walked three over seven innings. Hannah Grumbles hit 2 for 3 with a double to lead Nederland (14-11, 4-1 in 21-5A), while Brittany Taylor, Trahan (double), Danielle Richardson (double) and Tori Morrison each slapped a hit.

Nederland will host Dayton on Tuesday.

PNG 21, Memorial 0

In Port Arthur, Taylor Dominguez homered and drove in four runs, and PNG (14-5, 3-1 in 21-5A) outhit Memorial (0-12-1, 0-4) 15-1 with two doubles in the rout.

Kasidee Sartin (double, RBI, three runs), Bayja Newby (double, RBI, two runs), Jakeyla McDaniel (three runs) and Maylin Louvier (two RBI, run) each had two hits for the Indians. Alexus Finn (three RBI, two runs), Sydnee Adams (RBI, four runs), Rayden Guerrero (RBI, run) and Madeleine Cormier (three RBI) accounted for the rest of PNG’s hits.

PNG will host district-leading Barbers Hill on Tuesday.

Nederland 6, Vidor 3

In Vidor, Noah Gregory threw six strikeouts and Jacob Mares tossed four and earned the save in the Bulldogs’ three-run win.

Kam Grant batted 2 for 4 with two RBI and a stolen base, and Landon Hiltz went 2 for 3 with a double and run scored for the Bulldogs (5-7-2, 1-0 in 21-5A).
