UPDATE: Port Arthur police have identified the victim of the fatal shooting as Devonte Demarcus Gillam.

A 19-year-old Port Arthur man suffered a gunshot wound to his lower torso and died soon after arriving at a hospital Monday night.

The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Apartments, 7631 Ninth Ave. According to Port Arthur Police Department, the victim was shot in the abdomen area and was unable to speak or respond to arriving officers. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for emergency medical treatment and succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.

Police detectives interviewed several witnesses.

PAPD’s Criminal Investigation Division is handling the case.
