NAACP to present scholarship event

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Port Arthur Branch, will host its Scholarships and Awards Banquet on March 30 at the Bob Bowers Civic Center, 3901 Cultural Drive, Port Arthur. Doors open at 6:30, dinner and program follow at 7.

Profits go to supporting continuing education for students attending Port Arthur-based schools.

Firefighters reveal

‘Fill the Boot’ date

Port Arthur firefighters have announced their annual Fill the Boot fund drive to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The news media kickoff for the event will take place April 29 at Station No. 1, 1215 Woodworth Blvd., Port Arthur.

The firefighters have supported MDA for 65 years to help families affected by the muscle disease, sending children to a weeklong, barrier-free MDA camp in Burton, Texas.

 

Symphonic band offers

free spring concert

The Lamar University Symphonic Band and University Band will offer a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Setzer Student Center Ballroom.

The public is invited.
