Chastadie Barrs did it.

The Lamar senior point guard collected 10 steals to break the NCAA all-time steals record in Division I women’s basketball, and the Cardinals routed Houston Baptist 97-49 in Houston on Wednesday.

Barrs needed only eight to reach 625 and beat the record set by Florida A&M’s Natalie White in the 1990s. She nearly achieved a triple-double in breaking the record, scoring 15 points and making nine assists, and was approaching a quadruple-double with seven rebounds.

Miya Crump added 19 points and Briana Laidler 11 for Lamar (22-5, 15-1 Southland), which is first in the conference by a half-game over Stephen F. Austin.

Lauren Calver scored 15 and Amanda Johnson 14 for Houston Baptist (7-18, 2-13), the last-place team in the Southland.

Lamar led 30-8 through the first quarter and 53-20 at halftime.
