Two people were arrested in separate shooting incidents — including one where a man shot a would-be burglar — in the city over the weekend.

Police responded to Park Central Apartments where a man was shot in the hand. The incident began with a verbal dispute between two men. One of the men tried to force his way into an apartment and the other man shot him, a police spokesperson said.

The shooting victim was initially hiding from police and tried to get out of the apartment complex but police were able to apprehend him. The suspect, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, was charged with burglary and also had an out-of-state parole warrant.

The man who shot him was not arrested.

Police were called just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday to an area of Turtle Creek Drive and Heatherbrook Trail where a 55-year-old man was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the lower extremities. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A short time later a 29-year-old man was taken into custody for the aggravated assault.

The actual shooting occurred in the 3200 block of 32nd Street, according to police.
