Robert Scott and Jailan Ardoin finished with double-doubles, and Tekoa Academy advanced to the Texas Christian Athletic League Class 2A championship game with a 60-56 win over Seguin Lifegate on Friday in San Antonio.

Scott and Ardoin each scored 18 points. Scott collected 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block; and Ardoin had 12 rebounds, four assists and two steals. Lesley Harmanson nearly added a double-double for the Cougars (21-8) with eight points, 10 boards and two blocks. Troy Angelle added 10 points in the win.

“Good team defense down the stretch along with solid free throw shooting late sealed the game in the remaining seconds,” Cougars coach Melvin Sostand said. “Our inside presence caused problems as we outrebounded Seguin in the second half. Great perimeter shooting by the likes of Jailan Ardoin, Lesley Harmson and Robert Scott sealed the deal.

“Our talented young guard Troy Angelle stepped up today and led our offense prowess as well. This was overall a great team victory.”

Tekoa will take on top seed School of the Woods from Houston at 3 p.m. Saturday at the University of the Incarnate Word for the championship.

On Thursday, Tekoa’s girls team lost to Poetry Community Christian 39-38 in the first round of state. Poetry is based north of Terrell.
