NEW ORLEANS — Over 350 pitches, 32 runs, 25 hits, 15 walks, and five hits-by-pitch took place in the 3 1/2-hour slugfest in Greer Field at Turchin Stadium as Tulane (5-0) came out on top, 22-10, over Lamar (3-2).

The scoring started early when Lamar put one across in the opening inning, but Tulane quickly answered with four runs of its own. Lamar pulled within one run, 4-3, in the top of the second, but Tulane replied again with eight more runs, leading 12-3 after two innings.

Lamar started to chip away with runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, and though Tulane scored in the third and fourth, Douglas Palmer and Ryan Erickson combined to hold the Green Wave scoreless in the fifth, sixth, and seventh as Lamar continued to bring home Cardinals and close the distance. After six innings the gap was closed to just six runs, 16-10. The seventh inning was also scoreless, but Tulane put the game out of reach in the eighth with another six run inning to win 22-10.

The Cards had 10 hits to score 10 runs, its highest offensive output of the year. Avery George went 2-for-3 in the game with three runs scored while drawing two walks, Logan LeJeune had a hit and three RBIs, Robin Adames collected two RBIs with a two-run homer, Carlos Correa collected his second solo homer of the year, and Cole Coker had a double and a solo homer. Cole Secrest and Anthony Quirion each had hits as well.

Lamar, which lost Tuesday’s game 8-1, returns to action on Friday against Central Michigan, the first of three games for Lamar in the 2019 Cardinal Classic. They’ll play Prairie View on Saturday and face Central Michigan again on Sunday.
