Garth received the honor for his role in LU’s victories over Northwestern State and Sam Houston State. Garth led the team averaging 22 points per game and was a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. He also averaged 2.5 rebounds and assists per game in the Cardinals’ two games.

The Cardinals opened the week with a 75-70 victory over Northwestern State in the Montagne Center. Garth led the way with 23 points on 9-of-15 (.600) shooting from the field, including a 3-of-6 (.500) effort from the three-point range. He also dished out four assists in the game.

He followed up that performance with a 21-point outing against league-leading Sam Houston State, as the Cardinals handed SHSU its first conference loss of the season, 75-72. For Garth, it marked the third consecutive game where he has reached the 20-point plateau.

In addition to helping LU secure the first Southland victory over Sam Houston State, it was also the program’s 1,000th all-time win. To make the game more special, the victory was recorded on reunion weekend as former players, coaches and administrators returned to campus to honor James Gulley, whose jersey was hung in the rafters at halftime.

The Cardinals (14-12/7-6 SLC) have now won three straight and five of their past six games. The recent success on the court has pushed Big Red into fifth place in the league standings with five games remaining. LU returns to action Wednesday when they travel to San Antonio to face the Southland’s other Cardinals — Incarnate Word. The game against UIW will tip off at 7 p.m. from the McDermott Center.
