FOOTBALL: H-F’s Waggoner, WOS’ Teel, Ibarra voted writers’ third-team 4A all-state

A Hamshire-Fannett linebacker and two West Orange-Stark players were named to the third team of the Texas Sports Writers Association’s 4A all-state football list, released Thursday.

Senior Blaine Waggoner made the list in his only season at Hamshire-Fannett. Playing for his father Mark, Blaine had 153 tackles (116 solo), including eight for losses, two sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Placekicker Angel Ibarra and defensive back Teshaun Teel earned all-state honors from the Mustangs. Ibarra set a school record with 10 field goals in 12 attempts, including a game-winning kick against Silsbee that gave West Orange-Stark its 400th all-time victory. He also kicked 24 extra points.

Teel had 84 tackles (11 for losses), returned two of his three fumble recoveries for touchdowns (25 and 98 yards), broke up four passes and intercepted two passes, one returned 90 yards for a touchdown.

Rushing and receiving threat Jordan Whittington of Cuero and linebacker Jared Rogers of La Vega were named offensive and defensive players of the year. Cuero’s Travis Reeve was voted coach of the year.
