It’s no secret Chastadie Barrs is a stalwart defender.

That was evidenced in her 10 steals Thursday night against the University of the Pacific.

But the steals count was part of Barrs’ triple-double, which paced Lamar to an 82-66 win at the Montagne Center in Beaumont. She and Jadyn Pimentel each had 23 points to lead the Cardinals (7-4), but Barrs also pulled down 10 rebounds, with four coming off the offensive glass.

Barrs also had eight assists, two away from reaching a quadruple-double.

Lamar come from a 21-12 first-quarter deficit and pulled within 38-33 at halftime. The Cards sealed the win with a 21-9 fourth quarter.

The Stockton, California-based Tigers (6-3) led by as many as 13 points, but Lamar surged to finish with its biggest lead of the game. Barrs led a defense that lured Pacific into 32 turnovers, while Lamar committed only 13.

The Cards’ defensive effort began to slow down a Tigers team which last led with 6:39 left in the third quarter. Lamar held the lead for only 16 minutes total and overcame a 39.2 percent field-goal shooting performance, compared to Pacific’s 44.4 percent shooting. Lamar also went 18 for 30 in free throws for 60 percent.

Moe Kinard scored 11 points and Rikiah Cowart had 10 for Lamar. Lianna Tillman and Valerie Higgins led Pacific with 15 points apiece, while Ameela Li and Brooklyn McDavid each scored 11.
