West Brook (13-2) will take on Amarillo Tascosa or Longview at 3 p.m. next Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Westlake, coached by former Thomas Jefferson quarterback Todd Dodge, finished 13-2.

The Chaparrals were trying to make their second championship game in three years and ninth overall. The Chaps have won only one title, in 1996 (5A Division II) with Drew Brees at quarterback.

Elia and Johnson were determined to turn history in West Brook’s favor. Johnson caught eight passes for 204 yards.

The Bruins also moved the ball well on the ground with Robert McGrue’s 114 yards on 15 carries (including a 69-yard touchdown run). West Brook totaled 471 yards of offense to Westlake’s 412.

Elia’s 66-yard connection to Johnson gave the Bruins a 22-7 lead with 9:36 left in the second quarter. Kevin Linares knocked two field goals through to give the Bruins their largest lead at 28-10, a margin they matched after Deonte Simpson completed a 46-yard pass to McGrue.

Westlake narrowed the gap to 35-30 following Kirkland Michaux’s 38-yard pass to Mason Mangum in the third quarter and Tripp Graham’s 4-yard run with 7:58 left. Michaux completed 14 of 29 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns, with Penny Baker (six receptions, 111 yards) catching the other TD pass.
