Tip leads to arrests on gun, drug charges

An onlooker’s tip to Beaumont police led to the arrests of two men suspected of drug and weapons violations.

In an issued statement, police said the citizen called at 1:22 a.m. Thursday after seeing two men in a parking lot at 4675 Collier standing near a vehicle.

Police responded with a K-9 unit that alerted officers to the presence of illegal narcotics.

Police said Nicholas Ray Smith, 30, of El Paso, and Rolanda Deandre Jackson, 30, of Beaumont were taken to the Jefferson County jail. Smith was charged with possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully carrying a weapon and Jackson was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon.

Recovered at the scene were two handguns, 3 kilograms of liquid THC, six packages of THC gummies and more than $6,000.
