PORT NECHES — The City of Port Neches is continuing its quest to replace and update its water meters.
The new meters are pretty high tech and can allow the customer some insight into their water bill.
Taylor Shelton, director of public works in Port Neches, said the meters can show when the highest usage is during a 24-hour period and, for instance, if 4 p.m. is the highest time that might coincide with the timing of the person’s irrigation system. A continuous high usage might indicate a leaking toilet.
The city has been replacing and upgrading the water meters for the past two to three years.
“This will be a block of 500 and we probably have another 1,500 to go,” Shelton said.
The purchase is budgeted and allowed for the continued replacement and upgrade of water meters. The city utilizes Neptune meters and the products must be purchased from the authorized dealer, Core & Main. The total cost is $49,982.92.
