Port Arthur teen Tayvien Alpough came up short in his USA Boxing match against the nation’s No. 2 fighter in the 101-pound Youth Men division.

Alpough, 16, was stopped in the third and final round against Jesus Haro of Merced, California, late Thursday at the USA Boxing national championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. Haro will take on Javier Gama of West Haven, Utah, who stunned top-seeded Keith Burroughs of Oxon Hill, Maryland, for the national title Saturday evening.

Alpough’s brother Luke, 17, won a match and lost another in the 123-pound Youth Men bracket. The brothers, who train at Lionhearted Boxing Academy, will enter other tournaments in hopes of earning points toward qualification for a spot in the U.S. Olympic trials for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo.
