FRISCO — Chastadie Barrs of the Lamar women’s basketball team has been named the Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by MidSouth Bank, the league announced Monday.
The LU guard picks up her first weekly honor of the season after leading the Cardinals to a 74-68 victory over No. 17 Texas A&M. She played 36 minutes and scored a season-high 23 points in the contest. She shot 39.1 percent from the floor.
The win for Lamar snapped a 10-game home court winning streak for Texas A&M and is the first victory for Lamar over Texas A&M since Jan. 16, 1982. Besides leading the team in points, Barrs led the Cards in rebounds (7), assists (4) and steals (4).
Her four steals add to her career total, which is now at 492. Her 492 steals rank her fourth on the NCAA all-time steals list. She has 36 steals on the season, which is second best in the nation, and she has recorded a steal in 99 straight contests.
Prior to the season, Barrs was named to the 2019 Nancy Lieberman Award watch list, which recognizes the top 20 point guards in the nation.
Barrs and the Cards return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Manhattan, Kansas, to face Kansas State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
