Child Protective Services are investigating the possible drowning of a 1-year-old child in Port Arthur.

Emergency services were called at 1:28 p.m. Thursday at Louis Manor Apartments, 1300 Joe Louis Ave., in reference to an unresponsive child, according to Port Arthur Police.

The child was transported to a local hospital where she passed away, Shari Pullium, media specialist with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, said.

Child Protective Services have taken custody of the child’s three male siblings, ages 4, 2 and 4 months.

Preliminary autopsy reports show the child drowned in a bathtub.

Pullium said that CPS investigates all child deaths.

“There are a lot of unanswered questions we need answers to,” Pullium said of the reason siblings are taken into CPS custody. “Our job is to keep children safe that are in the home.”
