PAPD to start Roadside Pay for bench warrants

Port Arthur Police Department will begin offering “Roadside Pay” for those with active capias warrants on Monday.

This will allow people to pay their fine at the traffic stop and avoid arrest and possibly avoid additional charges, such as a tow fee.

Right now there is only one credit card scanner to be used in this trial period, PAPD Deputy Chief Martin “Bubba” Blitch said.

The department hopes to buy more of the scanners for their officers.

“The Roadside Pay is for people with a capias warrant who can pay their fine in whole,” he said.

A receipt will be emailed to the payee and the payment transaction will be updated in real time with Municipal Court. This payment option is available through patrafficpay.com, according to information from the PAPD.

The Port Arthur Police Department and Port Arthur Municipal Court encourages citizens to check www.portarthurtx.gov/315/warrants.com for active warrants and to follow instructions to pay the fines on line.

The tentative start date is Monday. If you have any questions you can email Sgt. Tyre Thomas at tyre.thomas@portarthurtx.gov or call Municipal Court at 409-983-8686.

The discretion to arrest is always the decision of the officer.
